The Canadian federal government is considering changes that could strip churches, temples, mosques, synagogues, and other faith-based organizations of their charitable status. In December 2024, the Liberal - NDP Majority on the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance adopted Recommendation 430, proposing amendments to the Income Tax Act that would eliminate "advancement of religion" as a recognized charitable purpose.
If enacted, this measure will punish the millions of Canadians who support religious organizations, making it harder for them to provide essential services, including food banks, shelters, addiction recovery programs, and community outreach—services that benefit millions of Canadians every year.
Mike de Jong is Urging Canadians to Take a Stand for Religious Freedom
Mike de Jong has a proven history of standing up for religious freedom, just as he did during the pandemic when he defended the right of religious communities to gather. He continues to fight against government overreach that threatens faith-based organizations and the critical work they do in their communities.
We Call on the Government of Canada to:
✔️ Reject any proposal that would remove the charitable status of religious organizations.
✔️ Recognize the vital social and economic contributions of faith-based groups.
✔️ Protect the rights of Canadians to practice and support their faith without government interference.
